City of Cocoa, Florida General Information

City Of Cocoa

             Cocoa Florida is a very well known for its Cocoa production. It is a great city in the country of Bevard, Florida, United States. Not growing rapidly, on 2000 U.S. Census bureau, the population was estimated to a total of 16, 412 and increased slowly to 16, 478 by the end of 2008. Cocoa Florida which is at 28°22′10″N 80°44′38″W  is reported to have a total of 24.7 Km2 (9.5mi 2) area, where the 19.3 km2 (7.5mi2) is its land and the remaining 21.64% area or 5.3 Km2 (2.1mi2) is the waters. 


             Counting the annual species of birds started on 1950’s, the Cocoa Bird Count listed a total of 150 species of birds. Also the city of Cocoa, celebrated the annual “Christmas Bird Count” already before the city had its Cocoa Bird Count.

             A government is a group of people who governs or controls the state in a given specific time. The Cocoa City in the 1959 is when the people brought to life a new government; the Council-Manager was then first approved, Changes in the state’s decree then mirrored the Plan of the City of Cocoa’s Council-Manager Plan. The Mayor as Chairman, serving the City’s Board of Directors is the City Council, also serving as the Executive Chief is the City Manager. Five members are the total members the city of Cocoa made up for the City Council; Elected by a mass of people, the mayor sits in while elected by the districts, four council members are governing.  
              Serving as the Mayor in the present time, Mayor Mike Blake was held as the first African American Mayor in the City of Cocoa. Also attending as the Councilman, Clarence Whipple serves the 1st district. Selected as Deputy Mayor on November 2010 is Jake Williams who served district 2 since 2004 also serving as a councilman, Don Boisvert served the district 3 for at least 4 and a half years. Also serving for district 4 is James McCarthy with the appointed City Manager Ric Holt.
Cocoa Village Marina
              Revived by the series of grants of the government and investments from private sectors, the former Downtown is now called the Cocoa Village. Having the goal of improving the commercial and residential values in the minority areas of the city, The Diamond Square Redevelopment Agency was then established.
             A total of $1.18 billion of taxable real estate base was received by the city in the year 2007.

             In the 2000 U.S. Census database, a total of 16412 people lived in Cocoa City, more than 6,939 households were built, and a sum of 4,232 of families are residing the city; having the population density reaching 849.4/km2 (2,200.3 /mi2), housing units up to 8064 with an average density 417.4/km2 (1081.1/mi2). Most of the city’s residents are 62.47% white, while 32.28% were African American, 0.94% were Asian, 0.63% is Native American, 0.23% are Pacific Islander and 3.45% are from other different races. The other 4.93% of the city’s population were from the races, Hispanic or Latino.

             Out of 6,939 households an average of 28.5% have under 18 children living with them, a sum of 37.0% are married couples, 19.2% are females without husbands present, and 39.0% were not a family. In the total amount of households, the 32% were individuals and households with senior citizens from ages 65 and above with them are an average of 11.5%. Total of 2.35 is the average household size while the average size of family is 2.97.
